Between the 14th and 16th century the notion of how Europeans view the world has changed drastically and brought fundamental changes within the arts and technology and also sparked what is now understood as the sciences. We call this period the Age of Discovery.
Through numerous expeditions not only our understanding of the shape and expanse of the earth was formed.
An expedition is a special kind of journey. It may lead into unknown territories and tries to uncover hidden land while holding considerable and potentially difficult to assess risks. But not only physical boundaries need to be crossed to broaden ones mind.
What happens if the main focus is not the destination itself, but the concept of an expedition in general? Which instruments, methods and motivations may be applied? Under what flag does one sail?
Studio Process explores the visual language of heraldic symbolism by adapting the flag as a motif and contemporary medium and install a 8 minutes 24 seconds long animated projection, that serves as a triptych, unveiling several symbols as part of video emblems.
